Louis Pasteur

Germ Theory

He found the enemy no one could see.

“Chance favors only the prepared mind.”
Pasteur raises an upright swan-neck flask toward the light, studying its transparent amber liquid. Beside him, a flask whose protective neck was previously removed contains cloudy liquid. His 1861 account describes this distinction: the curved-neck preparation remained unchanged; growth appeared after the neck was detached and time elapsed.
